I'm shocked there is no Nightwish thread... Nightwish has a new singer!! She is from Sweden and her name is Anette! I LOVE her voice, she isn't as operatic as Tarja, but who cares..she can sing, although its hard to tell about her voice with the song "Eva" the lyrics aren't that great(IMO). mirror.nightwish.com/en/band/members/facts?id=16 <-- learn more about Anette Theres a sound clip of "Eva" on the official site as well. So lets discuss!! Also there coming to the USA for a tour in October and November, sadly no Colorado concert thought --- I'm shocked the Virginia concert is already sold out.

I like her voice better than Tarja's, too. I'm not sure about the new song, though. But then, statistically, I only like a third of Nightwish's songs, so who knows. I am very interested to see how the singer sounds on rock songs.

The song is for charity, so I'm going to guess they didn't want to do typical Nightwish sound.
I'm not a huge fan of the song, but parts of it are pretty. I personally don't think it show cases the new singers singing ablity...to me it sounds like theres more to her voice then what is "showed" in this song.
This isn't really the "official" single either, in a few months will here the "official" single off the new album and I believe the new album comes out August 21st, if not its sometime in September, those two months are important though, Nightwish wise.
You can now buy the song from Nuclearblast, not sure the official site for that...but I know its a English site, not sure if American's will be able to purchase from there.
I hope everyone who is a Nightwish fan will be cizilized about the new singer.
I think for this thread we should really limit the Tarja post, because Tarja isn't in Nightwish anymore..
Sorry I'm rambling, but I'm just too damn excited. ;D

Well, here is the comment I made over FBM, it summarize pretty much how I feel about this.
^^quoting myself.
And about Eva, I don't like it at all. I truly hope that sample we heard isn't the most interesting part of the song, cuz it bored me real bad. Plus I got a Celine Dion vibe there. And I don't like what we've heard of the lyrics "Eva flies away...with no friends to call her name". That's just sooooo cliché. ETA: BTW, for who didn't know, there are 3 more samples over nightwish.com. They are better than Eva if you ask me.

My first impression of the new samples is that the new singer's voice doesn't fit Nightwish at all. Maybe it's just too big a change to get used to very quickly. I'll listen to the album when it comes out and make my decision then.
In the meantime, I'm going to buy the charity single even if I'm not sure that I like it, because, you know, charity. I'm also buying all the other Nightwish songs I have and haven't paid for. I'd have bought them ages ago if they ever showed up on iTunes or Napster, but, well, I don't know if that will ever happen. I still can't buy "Beauty of the Beast" and probably "Fantasmic", though. Stupid album-only songs. Now I just hope they'll take American credit cards.

My though exactly. A better thing Tuomas should have done, was to get a singer that can do both, opera and non-opera singing. In fact, this is what I was expecting. That way, we still get to hear NW opera, and NW non-opera. I think that this would have ease the transition for the fans, who were used to the opera thing.
I listened to Eva over youtube, and it bored me real bad. I wasn't able to finish listening to it actually. I hope that Eva doesn't represent NW's new direction, because if it is, I am out. Well, sort of. I'll still want to get the album to listen to Emppu's solo and see if there's anything I like. ;D

Well, the samples seem very different from Eva. Eva is a pretty boring song. Without Tarja singing it, it doesn't really even sound like Nightwish.

I think Anette's voice sounds better than Tarja's. Tarja's voice was grating at times, like scratching finger nails against a chalkboard. I'm not saying Tarja is a bad vocalist. I actually liked her voice a bit, but I dunno... I only liked about a third of Nightwish's music with Tarja singing like nyohah.

To tell you the truth, I REALLY liked Tarja's vocals. However, I don't get into the politics and nonsense of the war between NW & Tarja that's been going on these past years. I'll give Anette a chance (my Aunt has the same name!!! ), since Amarath (sp?) sounds REALLY good from the samples! Someone said that Anette & Tuomas do grunt vocals for one of the songs!! That should be intersting to hear. Don't like Eva too much, a bit boring (it's like a do over of Nemo or something, just not as good). Passion Greed whatever I didn't like because I'm not too fond of uber-Marco vocal useage. 7 Wolf song didn't like either because Anette's voice was . Marco's voice was the better thing in that sample. Amarath is still *amazing*. The worse thing is, though, is that throughout this album I'll be thinking. Wow, if they didn't fire Tarja, this would be her last album. Could she have done a better job in some of the songs. Like, for example, in Amarath, Anette does a really good singing (vocal wise), and I think Tarja may not have put off that type of singing. But perhaps I like that song was because of the type of background vocals (operaticish during the drum parts). So perhaps if Tarja did it it would be uber-cool with operatic goodness. See the back and forth struggle? BTW, have you noticed everyone is leaving bands these days? Tarja, then Vibeke of Tristania and now Anekke (whom I don't care about really since I don't like The Gathering, but still). I mean, who would be next? Ah the wonderful world of Femme Metal

^I have to thank you for mentioning the whole 'it would have been tarja's last album' -- that is why I never got why people were so mad when she was fired, she wasn't going to stick around much longer anyways!
But I haven't heard these other songs..are they on the official website? I rarely go to band websites these days lol I'm very excited, I have a feeling though this new album will be sort of "blah" because they'll still be working out the kinks of having a new singer..and trying to find out whats "perfect" or so for her voice.
I noticed that too about all the female metal bands, but with the girl from The Gathering she'd been in that band for like 10 years or so, so I guess you can't expect her to do the same thing forever!

Well some NW samples were aired yesterday. The Poet & The Pendulum intro in on YouTube now. Quite nice actually, I like the boy soprano's voice/intro to the song; then guitars are REALLY NICE. Anette's singing is okay, the chorus is better though (would have been amazing with some choir, but there is probably more of that later on in the song.) As of now though, the Epica new CD is looking more promising than the Nightwish CD (my opinion). Yet again I doubt both would be released here in the USA, so I'm waiting on THOE (WT) to come by then spring of a trip to NY to buy some Femme Metal goodness

Actually, I believe Nightwish and Epica do get released in the U.S., but not on a wide basis. I've seen Nightwish cd's in stores, and both band's dvds get NTSC versions, which are only for America. You won't find them at Wal-Mart, but a dedicated music store or Borders or Best Buy or something might have them.

Nightwish is released here in the states, you just have to know where to go...try your local music record stores. We have a record store that is dedicated to metal music only...you might have one too, but they are "underground" so to speak, they aren't widely known.
I've seen Nightwish & Leaves' Eyes CDs at Best Buy -- so they ARE released here, plus I've bought several Nightwish CDs at local record shops.
Oh and I found these CDs BEFORE female metal was popular(so to speak).

The Best Buy where I live sells a horrific selection of stuff. I always have to go far away (NYC or Quebec) to find a good selection (at of course, $25+ import price but anyways).
True, they sell NW but only Once, the occasional CC & OTHAFA EP and the compilation one. LE they only have Vinland Saga (always one of them too). And I was ready to pull my hair out when I kept seeing Illumination (Tristania) on EVERY single CD store in Canada but nothing from previous albums (they had them at HMV but of course, on the last day we didn't go there because some people wanted to go to the mall instead *anger*)
EDIT: BTW, new NW songs have been leaked. I think Amaranth, TPATP and something else.
