The Open Door, track #8 Written by: Amy Lee.
This is a short track. Lethal’s work is once again noticeable and Amy murmurs on this track as well.
Like You: This is another song about Amy's little sister.
0:00 - 0:18
Stay low Soft, dark, and dreamless Far beneath my nightmares and loneliness I hate me For breathing without you I don't want to feel anymore for you
Grieving for you I'm not grieving for you Nothing real love can't undo And though I may have lost my way All paths lead straight to you
I long to be like you Lie cold in the ground like you
1:33 - 1:37
Hmhmmmhm
Halo Blinding wall between us Melt away and leave us alone again Humming, haunted somewhere out there I believe our love can see us through in death
I long to be like you Lie cold in the ground like you There's room inside for two and I'm not grieving for you I'm coming for you
2:44 - 2:51
You're not alone No matter what they told you you're not alone I'll be right beside you forevermore
I long to be like you, sis Lie cold in the ground like you dear There's room inside for two and I'm not grieving for you And as we lay in silent bliss I know you remember me I long to be like you Lie cold in the ground like you There's room inside for two and I'm not grieving for you I'm coming for you
4:11 - 4:17[/size]

EvenInDeath46's Interpretation:So, as most of us Evanescence fans know, this is a song about how Amy Lee felt at a time during her childhood when her beloved younger sister died. I'll cite some references from the lyrics of the song (they may jump around a little bit) to explain how I interpret the meaning of the song. Since Amy Lee wrote this song, I'm going to relate the lyrics to her. In my opinion, the lyrics of the song seem to be more specific to her situation in mourning the loss of a loved one rather than a general "narrator" that all listeners can relate to. Stay low/ Soft, dark, and dreamless/ Far beneath my nightmares and lonlinessAmy's sister has been deceased for some time now. In fact, the body of her sister been buried beneath the surface of the Earth in a cemetery. Amy still has thoughts of her sister and is haunted is by past memories. ...What they told you...Because Amy is a child of only six years of age during this devestating time, she cannot fully comprehend the concept of death. Adults have explained to her that she will never see her sister again for the rest of her life. I hate me for breathing without you/ I don't want to feel anymore for youIt is very common for children to believe that they are somehow involved in a loved one's death. Children will somtimes believe they are the cause of someone's death even if the person died of natural or accidental causes. Unfortunately, Amy experienced the death of her sibling at a very young age and felt like she did something wrong. She feels guilty upon the the fact that she is still alive, while her sister is dead. She may have had thoughts similar to "it should have been me instead of my sister." Grieving for you/ I'm not grieving for you/ Nothing that real can't undo/ And though I may have lost me/ All paths lead straight to youAmy tries to convince herself that she is not grieving the loss of her sister for the sake of trying not to feel guilty. She tries to hide her guilt, yet it remains on her conscience. Although she tries avoiding the fact that her sister is dead (basically what the song "Hello" is all about), she just cannot rid herself of remorse. Amy's very own sister has died and she was very emotionally attached to her. I'm not alone/ No matter what they told you/ You're not aloneAmy feels that she is not alone. Despite the fact that adults have told her that she will never see her sister again, she knows that her sister is with her. She can sense that her sister's spirit is with her all the time. Halo/ Blinding wall between us/ Melt away and leave us alone again/ Humming, haunted somewhere out there/ I believe our love can see us through in deathAmy and her sister cannot communicate to each other because they are on two different parallels of existence: life and life after death. Though Amy cannot physically see her sister, she knows that her spirit is there. Amy loves her sister and the sister loves Amy through this difficult time. I long to be like you/ Lie cold in the ground like you/ There's room inside for two/ And I'm not grieving for you/ I'm coming for youNow, personally, I don't believe that the lyrics of the chorus are meant to be taken literally. I don't think the meaning of the chorus is Amy wanting to go to the cemetery where her sister is buried, dig up and desecrate the grave, then open the coffin and lie next to her sister's remains to commit suicide (just to be creepy : . I interpret that the lyrics are symbolic and are supposed to represent the afterlife. I suppose Amy didn't want to write about heaven to prevent bringing up the whole "Is Evanescence a Christian band?" controversy again. I interpret that Amy wishes that she is dead not in the sense that she wants to commit suicide, but in the sense that being dead is the only she will be able to see her sister again (since they exist on two different parallels of existence). The lyrics "I'm coming for you" show that Amy is not going to speed up the process of being reunited with her sister by suicide, but by patiently waiting through natural causes as she lives the course of her life. Like all things in life, human beings cannot last forever. Amy Lee is no exception and she will die one day, just like all of us. When it is Amy's time, she will die and her spirit will ascend into heaven (or whatever you believe exists after life) and will be reunited with her sister once again after many years of separation. And as we lay in silent bliss/ I know you'll remember meWhen Amy's spirit ascends into heaven, she and her sister will be reunited. Amy's younger sister will not forget her. Amy's sister probably felt lost and alone during this time as well and is happy to finally communicate with her sister again. I'll be right beside you forevermore In the afterlife, Amy and her sister can be with each other eternally. They will never have to be separated from each other ever again. (I hope my interpretation makes sense ). ~EvenInDeath46

^ Wow. That's a really good interpretation. Seriously, I'm not smart enough to interpret lyrics like that. LOL! But Nways, this is my favorite song from The Open Door! I love it so much! My favorites parts are the first verser, the piano after the second chorus, then the part where Amy sings you're not alone i'll be right beside you forevermore, then the very end of the song when Amy sing i'm coming for you and it has the haunting acoustic guitar that leads into Lose Control. I love this song so mcuh! ;D
