Cloud Nine Written by: Amy Lee and Terry Balsamo.
The Open Door, Track #5
We next dive into the soundtrack of a dark movie, with Amy’s mumbling and singing that lightens us up. The very gloomy atmosphere lasts throughout the whole song. DJ Lethal’s samples once again perfectly match with the song.
Cloud Nine: Italics are background vocals.
Oohh Oohh
If you want to live, (Oohh) let live If you want to go, (Oohh) let go I'm not afraid to dream- (Oohh) to sleep, sleep forever (Oohh) I don't need to touch the sky I just want to feel that high (Oohh) And you refuse to lift me (Oooo)
Guess it wasn't real after all (Ohhh) Guess it wasn't real all along (all along)
If I fall and all is lost It’s where I belong
Oohh
If you want to live, let live If you want to go, let go I'm never gonna be your sweet, sweet surrender (Oohh) (Ooooo)
Guess it wasn't real after all (Ohhh) Guess it wasn't real all along (all along)
If I fall and all is lost No light to lead the way Remember that all alone is where I belong
In a dream Will you give your love to me Beg my broken heart to beat Save my life Change my mind
If I fall and all is lost No light to lead the way Remember that all alone is where I belong
Oohh Oohh[/color]

I love all the voalcs and layering in this song. IS this song about Ben or Sean? Anyways, this song is one of their best on the CD I think!

We don't really know if this song was inspired by Amy's break-up with Ben Moody or Shaun Morgan.
What we do know is that there are four songs on The Open Door that are directly about break-ups: "Sweet Sacrifice," Call Me When You're Sober," "Cloud Nine," and "Lacrymosa." Out of those, we know for a fact that "Sweet Sacrifice" was inspired by Ben Moody, while "Call Me When You're Sober" was inspired by Shaun Morgan. The identity of the sole muse for "Cloud Nine" and "Lacrymosa" is still up for debate, but one can infer that perhaps both break-ups and, perhaps, other experiences in Amy's life inspired her to write the lyrics for these songs.
Shaun Morgan was also mentioned by Amy as helping inspire her to write the lyrics for "Lithium," but that's a different matter altogether.
