Anyone know anyone with this? My mom was just diagnosed, and she thinks I may have it (I actually thought about that a few years back but dismissed it, ish). I've done a little research, and really don't plan on pursuing this unless pain becomes a problem more than it is now, but would still like to see if anyone here knows much about it. I'm all about knowing what's what with me. This is where I've already checked out.www.mayoclinic.com/health/fibromyalgia/DS00079

I know you can get fibromyalgia when you have a bacterial of viral infection, ans I've done a litlte research too but they say it's likely not genetically transferrable, so in that case you don't really need to worry, Robynn;) Further I actuallt don't know much about it, but you can go visit the doctor if it's gonna hurt more

We did talk about chronic pain disorders in one of my classes a while ago...
All I remember is that Pain Management Therapy (CBT) is a good way to learn to deal with the pain. Also, exercising is a key component in diminishing the pain...I don't remember the needed intensity of the exercising though.
Lastly, environment is another important factor influencing one's pain. Pple report more pain in a nonsuportive environment VS a supportive environment.
That's really all I remember. I really hope that it's not something you'll need to deal with Robyn.

according to all the sites I've looked at, this is something that does run in families. as for pain, I've been living with chronic pain since I was a teenager with my back and stuff. I've only recently not been in constant pain, but it's starting to come back. the degenerative disc disease is getting to me, I think. I have to have an MRI to confirm it, but I know. Good thing I have a desk job now, huh?

While doing my "volunteering" today, I came across a book which had some explication about Fibromyalgia. I though I'd share what I got, although I am pretty you already got that info.
1. Tylenol may help for the pain, if the pain is due to inflammation.
2. Anti-depressant are also good at helping, especially one special kind that help relax the muscle. (I don't remember the name of it though)
3. Biofeedback is something that may help you.
4. Exercising is also good. Nothing hard, but something of minimal effort. The exercises must be done 2-3 times a week, despites the pain. Aerobic exercises are especially good, as well as stretching and strengthening the muscles.

yeah, I've read all that too. but I'm also very certain I don't have it. I'm not in pain all the time now that I'm not stressed always. I'm not convinced my mom has it either, but I'm not around her to know for sure. I'll see her in June.
