Ive just finished a debate about this in English, and i thought it would interesting to see what your opinions are. My view on it is (in a nutshell) It should be made legal, with a tonne of precautions as i understand it can be taken advantage of. My own opinion on it relies on the fact that i HATE seeing anybody i care for in pain, whether it be emotional or physical, And as we all know, when someone is like that all you want to do is take away their pain. Of course theres ifs and buts. i wont go full swing into my debate now, but id like to hear your views

I'm for it, although as you said precautions would have to be taken since people could take advantage of it.
I seen an elderly women on the news, and she was suffering from something(can't think of it) but there is know way she was going to be getting better and she wanted to die, but of course it is illegal, and that is horrible, nobody should have to suffer like that, it causes her great pain and stuff...I wish I could remember what it was she was suffering.
The only thing that really bothers me, is what people call it 'assisted suicide' I think they need to come up with a better name then that!
What I don't get though, is if a person is in a coma, there loved one or whoever has a say, can tell the doctor to "pull the plug" on that persons life and that isn't illegal, to me these two things are very similar, yes they have some differences, but all in all its still a person dieing. (and I'm sure most won't agree with me on this said paragraph)
But I'm for it, its a persons choice, why suffer from something that will eventually kill you when you chose to go now and not have to suffer and basically wait, till whatever it is you have, kills you.

It can also be called Euthanisia...but i think i read somewhere that Assisted suicide and Euthanisia are slightly different. Im not entirely sure though.
I agree entirely with your last paragraph

I fully agree with Assisted suicide. Within Reason. A pysciatric exam will have to be done on the patient ( if Applicable), The medical report stating that the patient is in pain, and will die, And the whole thing will need to be done correctly.
My Older sister, Had a nerve disorder, one by one her limbs stopped fuctioning and she would be in intense pain. No amount of morphine, would dull the pain. She couldn't move, When she was 12, She Stayed in Our burning house, She could have escaped but she chose not to, we couldn't have a proper funeral, there wasn't much of a body left and We've never really gotten to say good bye. I know that assisted Suicide Would have allow her, the out and us a chance to say good bye.

Oh My Cheese!! We've just finished this is our English class in school!! We either had to pick from abortion or euthansia. I was going to go ahead with euthanasia, me being for it, but decided not too, because I didn't have all the information, so i did a crappy debate on abortion. But i do agree with euthansia, say if someone had cancer, then why should they have to suffer with it? Would you really want to be slipping away everday, living your last months in absolute agony and pain? Sorry if i'm going on...

You guys pretty muched voiced my opinion as well, but if say I were a doctor, I'd want to make sure that it was the last thing (and I mean VERY LAST THING) to even suggest or even hint at.
For me, I don't think it should be done for mental patients & people in therapy, people under 18/21, or essentially 'because we can'.
Physical injuries and whatnot, if (like stated above by someone else) they can't recover and is in pain.
I'd state my reasons but I gotto go, lol

I disagree with it. to a point, theres a difference between helping to end a loved ones suffering, and taking advantage of the law. I would agree with what simon said about psyciactric exam, and then have the hospital do it. Ive seen some sad stories on the news, where someone fought to have her life ended, because she was just so ill, theer was no way out, she lived off machines.
Ive also seen people that have been really ill, for a long time, with no hope, and start walking again. In good health, (yes right now im talking about my mother). and at the time she had no hope, she was going to die, we knew it, the hospital knew it. and then she was released from hospital and got steadily better. Now shes right as rain almost.
People make drastic decisions in drastic times, taking drastic measures, its onething you have ot take in consideration when its someones life.
