Neither one is there any more. Wind-up got 'em and took them down for copyright infringement.

So, I finally was able to listen to the new single.
It reminded me of Billy Idol, especially the beginning. Amy's voice was still great to listen to. And on the live version, it was great to see the guys rock on. I think this is song has great single potential!
To my hear though, it does need a breather (if that makes any sense). I don't think it'll be my most fav song of the album, but nonetheless, it's been great to hear Eva back and I thrilled about the new album.

Neither one is there any more. Wind-up got 'em and took them down for copyright infringement. Arg! Well it's on AmysEvArmy's YouTube page, so you can listen to it there. In other news (since I don't *think* we have a seperate topic for this), I heard The Change, The Other Side, and Oceans. Kay so my opinion on the new songs: I understand why What You Want is the single, and I agree - it's catchy, its neat, the instruments are AMAZING (guitars YES!), and I *love* the "every heart in my hands"/"but every hour" parts and the bridge is nice too - so I understand, accept, and am overall down with that decision. That being said, I don't think the lyrics are very deep. "Do watcha watcha want?" LOL Amy, why did you go there? And the fact that it is REPEATED, ugh I do not like repeated vocals (pop music does that so much) especially if it is not the chorus. HOWEVER, I do understand that the repeated vocals adds to the catchy-ness and thus its appeal as a single. In addition, I love the song live. It's a fun, rock out song that you don't really think to and just dance, which is very good. One of those songs is needed in every album, me thinks. Now, I *really* don't like Ahhs and Oohs in the lyrics, so already The Change has a minus for me. After listening to it a few more times however, I am at peace with the song. I think the part before the chorus I like, I just wish we had some definitive lyrics here because the EvThreads people don't know what they are hearing (most of the time). The Other Side however I didn't even like the snippet of it when that was released (I think the vocals are um, strange?) and I think there are some Ahhs and Oohs in The Other Side which adds another minus. So I do not like that. I think Amy *trying* to talk about death but (her words, not mine) in a "bitchy" way is what made this sound kinda, erm forced? Not organic and more of something that was MADE to sound mean rather than something that organically sounds mean do to the nature of the song (Tarja's Enough comes to mind). My favorite so far, judgeing by the snippets is Lost in Paradise which sounds mellow, and dark, and sad, and piano-esque which is great. And not boring piano-esque like Good Enough but depressing piano-esque like TLSIWOY, which is brilliant. My favorite LIVE song so far is Oceans, which I loved even as I heard the 'way-too-much-BASS' version on YouTube. It sounded hard and angry and epic and emotional . . . listening to a clearer version of it lowered the hardness and anger levels a bit, but with lyrics like "cross the ocean to my heart" you can't go wrong there. Also, the part before the bridge (I seem to like those) is great. It invokes a feeling of lonliness and fear and love and that's great. The titles are a bit weird though. "Oceans"? It couldn't be called anything else? Oceans is a theme, not a song title, but yet again coming form a CD labeled Evanescence its kinda LOL. I'd also rename Secret Door because that's kinda a weird title, maybe "THE Secret Door" or "A Secret Door" but that's the English Major side of me being snarky. Never Go Back and Disappear should be interesting too. Erase This should have stayed as Vanilla in my view, and I wonder what Purple was renamed too. I waiting to hear the Freedom song the most though . . . FREEEDOOOMM! (heh) Also, those Lillywhite Songs + Your Love need to be put in some sort of EP (Hi-Lo, You've Got Alot to Learn, Perfect Dream (on Italian EvReference), original Made of Stone) so yeah. BTW, people on some other forums are saying how songs from this album are about Ben/WATF/the past, and those people need to stop. Amy and Ben have long since stopped thinking about each other, and the only people still concerned about imaginary bad-blood between them are the interloping fans (like those annoying in-laws that just can't get a clue). This album is about Evanescence, not Ben, just like the new WATF album is about WATF, not Amy. Now if either one releases a solo album (2nd for Ben), then THAT is a different story (possibly).

Very thorough review there. I like to listen to whole songs, not snippets, though. I can't get a real feel for a song with 30 seconds.
