Well, ive been trying to give smoking up. and basicly its made me REALLY grumpy, i said some horrible things to some reallly nice people that i care lots about, it seems if i dont smoke for a while, then i just cant seem to control my mood, im just a grumpy asshole, and incredibly rude and ignorant. which is not me at all. i dont want to use any medical shit or nicorrete or whatever, but. does anybody have any, tips or what to do this, without jumping down people's throats.

this will sound silly but eat more, healthy stuff would be best for the health but apparently its something to do with the hand to mouth action. so whenever you feel like you need to grab a smoke, go grab a banana or something sort of replacing the times you'd smoke with healthy snacks.

guess what....suck it up and just do it. you know it's the lack of smoking making you grumpy, so stop it. You know I've already been there and done that.....so has my mom and dad. If you don't wanna do the pills or patch, then you just have to be aware of when your'e grumpy and stay away from people, or bite your tongue. It's hard to do, but the physical withdrawal is only 72 hours. After that, it's all psychological addiction, and that's the hardest part. The longer you go without the fag, the better you'll be at keeping a civil tongue, and the longer you'll go without a craving. Chew gum instead of smoking. It really does help with the craving...your mouth wants something to do, so give it something to do...chew gum. As for eating...don't use food when you have a craving. That's when people gain 100 pounds when they quit. The average is 40 pounds weight gain. I gained nothing....use gum. Sugar free gum is best.

I think its routine more than anything mate, especially if youve been smoking for a while, eg. After meals. with a drink, out of boredom! Thats the key, breaking the routine. I tried to give up a while ago and was REALLY grumpy for a while lol.
I think the best advice someone gave to me was to keep yourself busy so that you dont have the time to think of having a cigarrette but I know its easier said than done lol. Ive tried all the gums and patches but personally that didnt work for me, I gave up a few years back for 3 years by just cutting it out completely but its hard!
Good luck mate

Even though my situation was different than yours, as in my next puff would most likely kill me, it was still hard. Without chewing gum, I'd have had a more difficult time. I also chewed on the caps of pens when I was writing. And I took up cross stitching to keep my hands busy. You can work on your computer stuff if you don't wanna do crocheting or cross stitching. It's hard, and it will be for a LONG time, but it's worth it, in the end. I've watched too many family members die of cancer or lung/heart disease from smoking, not to mention my near-death experience. Not a fate I wish on anyone!

Smoking is a nicotene addiction. Basically, it's become such a habit for you that when you don't, it throws your mood completely off. I would suggest seeing a doctor or a counselor for advice, cos I'm no doctor.

Well, personally, I think that it is great that you decided to stop smoking Mike.
I bet it won't be easy, but keep it up. In the long wrong, it'll be worth it.
And here is some cheers to make you feel positive about the whole thing:
Go Mike go!

Not saying that it won't be hard, but my mom's doctor told her if she could make it through the first three weeks, she'd be fine. After 3 weeks of replacing the bad habit with just about anything else, your habit is broken. So, 3 days for the physical addiction, and 3 weeks for the habit part (doing something with your hands and mouth), and the worst is over. Seeing a light at the end of the tunnel might help even more than gum. Letting everyone know why you're grumpy will also help them understand, and not hold it against you.

3 weeks and counting!!! VERY nice. *pats you on the back* You've earned a new tattoo! Just think, the money that you save from not buying fags will buy your next tattoo that much faster!
Jussie...for SHAME!!! but, as long as you're quiting again. It's harder the quit the next time around, so make this one stick.
That goes for both of you. If you start back up again, the next time to quit DOES get harder to get past the psychological part, so don't start back up again. Busy hands are happy hands.

I did, my mom did....we all just had to give ourselves time outs for a few days and avoid people. think that'll help?
